FACIAL – ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
Every individual wants to look attractive and youthful. The face is the first thing that gets noticed when we meet anyone. For us to maintain a healthy facial skin, we need to take care of it. Just washing it clean with water, is not sufficient. The skin needs deep cleansing and a good regime. A good facial comes to your rescue. Both men and women need a regular facial to be done, to maintain the skin conditions as you grow old.
The basic procedure remains same for both men and women. Make sure you have a professional attending to you, who knows what to do. The steps involved are :
Cleanse: This is the part where the beautician removes make up and other external impurities from the face. Cleansing milk or lotion is massaged onto the facial skin and neck area and removed with sponges or cotton pads. The skin is then patted dry.
Exfoliate: This is nothing but removing dead cells. The top layers of the skin are removed, which results in a brighter skin underneath.
Steam: Steam is applied to the face to open up the pores and the impurities caught in them. Steam is given either through a steamer or heated, moist towels.
Extraction: This is the process of removing blackheads and whiteheads with a stainless instrument. It also clears blockages in the pores.
Massage: This is a very important step in any facial. A good massage stimulates and nourishes the skin. Massage creams, lotions or serums are used, depending on the skin type and what are your expectation from the facial.
Mask: This is again skin specific. Different face masks are used for different skin types. Eg., a clay mask is used for oily skin and a moisturizing mask is used is for dry skin. The mask needs to be applied for 10-15 minutes, after which it is removed with a damp cloth.
Tone: A toner is applied to the skin to close the pores or else impurities will again clog the pores. The texture of the skin also is balanced at this step.
Moisturize: A moisturizer is applied finally, which protects the skin from external damage factors like sun and pollution. Again, specific moisturizers are used for the various skin types.
BENEFITS AND DRAWBACKS OF FACIALS:
Facials are the most popular of all beauty treatments. Young and old, men and women now-a-days opt for a facial every month. Although it does wonders to your skin, it has some down side effects. Let us find out the advantages and disadvantages of a facial.
It provides deep cleansing to the skin.
The scrubbing during the exfoliation process removes all unwanted cells, blackheads, etc. revealing a brighter skin.
Steaming opens the pores making it easy for your skin to breathe. It also makes the skin soft for removal of the blackheads.
The massage enhances blood circulation and gives you a relaxed feeling.
Face masks make the skin look and feel soft and supple.
Getting a facial done regularly delays the onset of wrinkles and fine lines on the skin.
Redness: This is one of the most common effects of a facial. The scrubbing and blackhead removal together, cause irritation to the skin. It makes the skin look red and uneven, but within 2-3 days, your skin should return to normal.
Skin breakouts: Unsterilized tools and unclean steam machines infect the skin with bacteria, resulting in breakouts.
Scarring: At the time of removing impurities like blackheads and whiteheads, the skin tends to get damaged due to the vigorous pressure applied. The outer layer of skin is prone to infections and sometimes scarring.
Dryness: Though exfoliation washes away dead cells, it might get harsh sometimes. This leads to
dry and itchy skin.
